Bible Study Lessons – Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth
“Behold I will do a new thing…” Isaiah 43:19. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away, behold all things are become new,” II Corinthians 5:17. “A new creature,” Galatians 6:15. “For the former things are passed away… Behold I make all things new,” Revelation 21:4 & 5.
Look up each Bible verse and write it out. Underline or highlight what speaks to you. Reflect on how each lesson affects your current life situation.
Bible Lesson Twenty Five: Genesis 30 Whose Yo’ Mamma?
Read Genesis 30. Write down what strikes you about this chapter.
In verse one, describe the humanness of Rachel.
How did Jacob respond to her (verse 2)?
What were the results of Rachel taking matters into her own hands? Verses 3-8. What were the name of the 2 children and the meaning of their names.
What was Leah’s response to what Rachel’s efforts? Verses 9-13. What were the names of the children and the meaning of their names?
Describe what you think the atmosphere of Jacob’s household must have been like during this time.
How does verse 14 shows the loyalty that the children had to their individual mothers?
What is Leah’s response to Rachel’s request? What is the deal they made? Verses 14-15
In verse 16, we can see who Jacob spends most of his evenings with.
Name Leah’s next 3 children and give the meaning of their names.
In verse 20, describe Leah’s desperation and working in her own means – to obtain love.
How does Psalm 40:1-3 relate to Rachel in verses 22-24?
What is Jacob’s desire in verses 25 – 30? Explain the blessings from God.
What specific type of sheep/cattle did Jacob take from Laban?
What did Jacob do to cause the animals to conceive? How did this work in his favor?
Interesting Jacob separated the sheep and cattle. How does this relate to the passages in Ezekiel 34:1-22 and Matthew 25:31-46?
The speckled and spotted animals represent imperfection. Jesus was the spotless lamb, representing – perfection, no sin. Notice that Jacob takes all the “imperfect” animals but in actuality, are they not stronger than the rest of the animals?
How does this relate to Matthew 25:35 – 45 and I Corinthians 1:27-29?
This picture with the sheep/cattle is also found in Micah 4:6 & 7. Read how this prophecy is fulfilled in II Peter 2:9 & 10.
An example of this is found in Joshua 2 and 6:17. Can you think of several other examples of God’s imperfect chosen ones?
Reflect on how God’s word through this chapter spoke truth to you.
